New Year in Pokhara
Every year in Pokhara, the main area of
Lakeside is shut off to motorbikes, taxis, and buses and the shops and
restaurants spill out onto the street. This year it was the 14th
Street Festival that Pokhara has held. Every café and restaurant joined in the
festive spirit to celebrate the New Year. This year was no different, for 5
days running the festival was in full swing, BBQ’s, cocktails on the street and
fun fair games!
On New Year’s Eve we all decided to wrap up
warm and head out to the street festival. The volunteers ended up in our usual
‘Busy Bee’ bar whilst we were out on the street to celebrate as it was packed!
Lucky for us we ended up in a local bar and welcomed 2013 with some AC/DC and
Nepali rock songs.
We had been carrying a bottle of champers
with us and we wanted to celebrate with one of our local café’s where we hold
our conversation club and meetings. The family of Shanti Resturant have taken
GVI in as their extended family so it was only right to pop the bottle of
champers with them.
We wish you all a very happy new year 2013.
May this year bring you all lots of happiness and prosperity! We look forward
to greeting all our new volunteers, developing the projects and meeting old
volunteers again.
